Capsel™: Protecting Life-Saving Medications, One Tumbler at a Time
The Problem: Overheating Medications
For millions of people who rely on life-saving medications like epinephrine and insulin, temperature control is a constant concern. These medications can lose effectiveness in extreme heat. Whether it’s a cruise in the Caribbean, a beach vacation, or a summer soccer camp, travel and time outdoors can be stressful for patients and families that need to keep their medications cool and ready.
Traditional carrying solutions like coolers with ice are bulky and can make medications too cold. Other products require electricity or ventilation, or need special care to prevent growing mold. Some products make big promises with paid testimonials, but don’t live up to the hype, leaving you with flimsy junk and more waste.
The Solution: Capsel™, a Unique Temperature-stabilized Medication Case
Designed by an emergency room doctor with engineering expertise, Capsel takes a different approach. Capsel converts high-quality insulated tumblers into robust, temperature-stabilized medication cases.
Insulated caps keep heat out, and advanced phase-change materials absorb residual heat so your medications don’t. Even better, no ice or refrigeration is needed, as the phase-change materials regenerate themselves when Capsel returns to room temperature.
A year of co-design with dozens of patients and caregivers led to thoughtful features like holders for AirTag® and other trackers and interchangeable identifying badges for customization.
Capsel is compatible with select Stanley® Quencher® tumblers and YETI® Rambler® bottles, and more are in the works. Development is ongoing for select Owala®, Contigo®, Kleen Kanteen®, and Brumate® tumblers and bottles.
Unlike mass-produced, overseas-manufactured alternatives, Capsel is made in the USA using small-batch, additive manufacturing. This allows a high-quality and adaptive approach to building Capsel, reducing overproduction and transportation waste.
Real-World Impact
Capsel is a solution born from necessity. Whether for parents carrying epinephrine for a child’s severe allergies, diabetics managing insulin on the go, or travelers needing to store medications like Ozempic and Wegovy safely, Capsel provides a simple, sustainable, and effective way to keep medications protected.
Capsel also creates a pathway for repurposing and upcycling Stanley® tumblers. Countless tumblers are collecting dust in kitchen cabinets, and they are not recyclable through the manufacturer or curbside programs.
More than just a case, Capsel represents a shift toward smarter, more adaptable design. It proves that essential medical storage can be accessible, eco-friendly, and seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

From the Prescribing Information for EpiPen:
Section 16: Storage and Handling
Protect from light. Epinephrine is light sensitive and should be stored in the carrier tube provided to protect it from light.
Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F); excursions permitted to 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F) [See USP Controlled Room Temperature].
Do not refrigerate.
Before using, check to make sure the solution in the auto-injector is clear and colorless.
Replace the auto-injector if the solution is discolored (pinkish or brown color), cloudy, or contains particle.
Additionally, the Patient Information section advises:
Do not expose to extreme cold or heat. For example, do not store in your vehicle’s glove box or trunk. Do not store in the refrigerator or freezer.
Always keep your 2 EpiPen or 2 EpiPen Jr auto-injectors in the protective cases to prevent damage to the device. The protective case is not waterproof.
Capsel protects your auto-injectors from overheating, light, and shock without refrigeration or ice. There is room for two pen-style auto-injectors WITHOUT removing them from their protective cases. Capsel has been tested with Mylan/Viatris EpiPen, EpiPen Jr, Amneal Adrenaclick, and Teva Epinephrine Auto-injectors for fit.

Most insulin pre-filled pens and vials may be left unrefrigerated at a temperature of 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F) for between 10 and 28 days, depending on the exact medication. Capsel uses phase-change materials that start absorbing heat at 28ºC (82ºF) and recharge when the temperature drops again. This means no ice, no refrigeration, and lower stress.
Always check your manufacturer’s recommendations.
